| Work at UMLD is generally fast paced.
Requests for books are generally received between 7:30AM and 9:30 AM.
These items are sorted by their UMLD bar codes, the pulled from the storage
module by a member of the staff. The items are then placed in transit
status and sent on their way to their destinations.
UMLD picks up new materials from other UM System libraries at University Courier each morning. Empty blue tubs for each library are exchanged for the full ones at that time. UMLD makes a delivery to Ellis Library on the UMC campus every business day near lunch time. From there, contracted courier services bring the books to the requesting UM System and affiliated libraries. Throughout the day, UMLD staff and assistants work to process new items into the collection, and electronically fill non-returnable requests, such as journal articles. |
