1.0 SCOPE OF POLICY

This policy defines the composition and functions of the University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries Collection Development Committee.

2.0 COMMITTEE CHARGE

2.1 The Committee will recommend firm order monograph fund allocations for each year.

2.2 The Committee will compile data relevant to recommending a firm order monograph fund allocation.

2.3 The Committee will review and approve all new serials.

2.4 The Committee will review and approve all serial cancellations.

2.5 The Committee will review and approve the purchase of back files.

2.6 The Committee will review and approve the purchase of all acquisitions priced over $400.00.

2.7 The Committee will review and approve all optical disk purchases.

2.8 The Committee will assist with and establish guidelines for the formulation and revision of collection development policies.

2.9 The Committee will advise and assist on other matters relative to collection development as required.

3.0 COMPOSITION

3.1 The Collection Development Committee will consist of seven librarians with representatives from the Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and one other person with collection development responsibility in Ellis and at least one representative from the branches. The Head of Acquisitions will serve as an ex officio member.

3.2 The Chair of the Committee is appointed by the Director of Libraries.

4.0 METHOD OF APPOINTMENT

4.1 The Committee will be a standing committee.

4.2 The Director of Libraries solicits names of volunteers and appoints new members.

5.0 TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

5.1 Terms of appointment will be for at least two years and at the discretion of the director.

5.2 Appointments will usually be made in January in order to allow new members to plan the acquisitions budget for fall.

5.3 The ex officio member will be a permanent member of the committee.

6.0 VACANCIES

6.1 Vacancies on the Committee will be filled by the Director of Libraries.

6.2 If possible the vacancy should be filled by a person representing the area represented by the person leaving.
