1.0 SCOPE OF POLICY
The primary mission of the MU Libraries is to meet the research and information needs of the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Missouri. In accordance with this mission, and to minimize disruption of services to our users, the MU Libraries have adopted this cellular phone use policy.
2.0 Patron Usage
2.1 Cell phones are to either be turned off or the ringer set to vibrate (silent).
2.2 Cell phone communication is permitted everywhere in the MU Libraries, with the exception of designated quiet study areas.
2.3 Users are requested to lower their voices while using cell phones. Speech tends to become louder when speaking on a cell phone. The noise travels and may be disruptive to other patrons.
3.0 Employee Usage
3.1 Cell phones are to be either turned off or the ringer set to vibrate (silent).
3.2 Cell phones may be used at one's work station, provided that:
3.2.1 Phone use is to be primarily during break times and lunch hour; use at other times is to be determined by one's supervisor.
3.2.2 Conversations are to be held so as to not disrupt colleagues' work.
3.3 Employees may not engage in cell phone conversations at public service desks or while helping patrons at other sites.
3.4 Cell phone use is prohibited while operating a University vehicle.
3.5 Ellis Library employees have the option of making calls in Room 53 (located in Technical Services).
3.6 Cell phones may be used in the Ellis Library Staff Lounge.
4.0 Refer to POLICY FOR RESPONDING TO DISRUPTIVE PATRONS (#44), in cases where patrons violate the cell phone policy.
