1.0 SCOPE

This policy establishes guidelines for the issuance of News Notes for the MU Libraries.

2.0 PURPOSE

2.1 The general purpose of News Notes is to convey official timely information pertaining to library operations, programs, and services to all employees of the MU Libraries.

2.2 Categories of information included in News Notes are:

a. Administrative notices

b. Notices about library buildings/branches, facilities or operational procedures

c. Announcements and reports of meetings and conferences

d. Information about visitors

e. Personnel actions, announcements of vacant positions, search committee appointments, employee interviews, and staff appointments

f. Calendar of events within the Libraries

g.                   Continuing education opportunities

h.                   MU Libraries Staff Association announcements

i.                     Employee recognition for significant professional or personal achievement

3.0 FREQUENCY OF PUBLICATION

3.1 News Notes will be issued on a weekly basis except for holiday periods, or in the event there is a lack of submissions.

4.0 EDITOR

4.1              The editor of News Notes is the Executive Staff Assistant to the Director of Libraries.

5.0 CONTRIBUTIONS

5.1 Items for inclusion in News Notes are encouraged from any employee of the MU Libraries.

5.2 Deadline for submitting items for the next issue is noon each Thursday for publication in the next day's issue.

6.0 DISTRIBUTION

6.1 An electronic copy of News Notes will be distributed to all MU Libraries employees except student assistants via the mulibstaff-l listserve. Student employee supervisors are encouraged to print off a copy of the News Notes for student review.

6.2 Retirees, former employees and other interested, non-affiliated individuals may be added to the distribution list at the editor's discretion. Whenever possible, an electronic copy of the News Notes will be distributed to the above in lieu of paper.

7.0 ARCHIVING

An archival copy of the News Notes will be maintained by Special Collection, the News Notes editor and on the MU Libraries Administrative Offices' Web Page.
