This catalogue was as part of The Art of the Book: Illustration and Design, 1650 to Present exhibition, continuing the theme of the highly successful The Art of the Book: 1000-1650. The present work picks up where the previous left off, tracing "the evolution of recorded knowledge and aesthetic achievement from monotype codices and copperplate illustrations to modern fine-press book editions and fine art prints" (from the Preface II). It contains many color images of important works from the holdings of the Special Collections and Rare Books Library, the Museum of Art and Archaeology, and objects lent by private collectors.
