Request Items through Interlibrary Loan (ILL@MU)

Interlibrary loan and document delivery are available to all MU students, faculty and staff. Items needed for research will be borrowed for you without charge. Items needed for recreational use will be obtained if you agree to pay a fee for them. You will be asked to define the purpose of your request on the forms that you will use to request the items.

  1. If you need a book, search the MERLIN Library Catalog for it. If you find it in MERLIN, request it online as directed.

  2. If you need a book and it is not in the MERLIN LIBRARY CATALOG, go to the MOBIUS Union Catalog and see if you can find it there. If it is available, request it online as directed.

  3. If it is a book and it is not available in either the MERLIN or MOBIUS Catalogs, please logon to ILL@MU and fill out the Interlibrary loan form for books. The Interlibrary Loan staff will try to borrow it for you from another library.

  4. If you need a dissertation/thesis and it is not available in MERLIN or MOBIUS, please logon to ILL@MU and fill out the Interlibrary loan form for dissertations.

  5. If you need a journal article, please check the MERLIN Library Catalog and FindIt@MU first to see if the article you need is available in the MU Libraries or in an online resource. If it is not, please logon to ILL@MU and fill out the Interlibrary loan form for journal articles and the Interlibrary Loan staff will try to obtain it for you.

Books and articles requested on interlibrary loan often arrive in only a few days.  Please be prepared to pick up the books as soon as you receive the notice because most loan periods are 21 days or less now.

If you need a renewal, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Office at (573) 882-1101 or at ellisi@missouri.edu a day or two before the book is due.  If you keep an interlibrary loan book longer than the due date, you will be responsible for paying any fines or billing charges that are charged by the lending library.

RECALLED Interlibrary Loan (ILL)) items will be assessed a fine of $10.00 per day if not returned by the due date.  ILL and Library privileges will both also be suspended.  Additionally, any charges assessed by the lending library for overdue, lost or damaged books will be passed on to the patron.

Articles will be placed on the web server when they arrive. You will receive an email note at your MU email address giving directions how to retrieve the article.

Questions may be directed to the Interlibrary Loan Office at (573)882-1101 or by email at ellisi@missouri.edu
