What's happening in the Journalism Library
Dorothy CarnerPlease welcome Dorothy Carner, our new librarian. Dorothy started June 1, 07 and her office is in room 53 Neff Annex which is located in our temporary space. You can contact her at carnerd@missouri.edu or by phone at 573-882-6591.

February 2007 we officially hired our new librarian. Dorothy Carner is coming to us from University of Texas - Austin as a Reference/Business Bibliographer. She will assume her duties on or around June 1, 2007.

Cindy Dudenhoffer, the Library Information Specialist I has finished her MLS and has taken a librarian position at Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo. Michael Hopkins assumed Cindy's position here on Oct. 16, 2006. He graduated in August from MU with a Computer Science degree. Michael has worked in the Journalism Library since summer of 2004.

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 the library staff discovered mold growing on a large number of books in our stacks. The mold was caused by high temperatures and high humidity. The library installed five dehumidifiers to start and six fans to circulate the air and the library staff cleaned each book with lysol disinfectant spray or rubbing alcohol and washed each shelf and the walls and floors with a mild bleach solution. All books and floors were vacuumed with a sealed hepa vac and environmental monitors have been installed to monitor the temperture and humidity levels. Less than one hundred books had to be rebound and less than ten books had to be withdrawn. There are three dehumidifiers permanently installed with drains and a hepa air filter and four fans to keep the air circulating. The library continued to be open but the stacks were unavailable during the clean up process. Total clean up lasted three weeks. 9/18/06

The Journalism Library has moved into 27 Neff Annex basement May 18-20, 2005. See photos of the move. This is a much smaller space for the library and as a result we have withdrawn and transfered to the Depository approximately 11,000 books. The library will be in the Neff Annex basement from May 2005 to May 2008. The library will still be accessible to patrons but we will only have two computers to use for Merlin and Mobius. The computers that we now have will be housed in Ellis Library. We will move into our new library in the summer of 2008 which is housed in the old Sociology building which will be the new home for the Reynolds Institute. See Construction Plans . The floorplan for the library is still in the planning stages. You may have noticed also that we do not have a fulltime librarian at this time. Here is the notice from the Library Director, Jim Cogswell:
