FAQs

Q: What is the loan period? Can the laptop be renewed when the time is up?
A: The loan period is three hours. The laptop can be renewed if there are charged laptops available.

Q: Can the laptop leave the library?
A: No.

Q: What happens if a person drops one and breaks it?
A: It depends. If the machine is under warranty, there will be no fine charged. There may be a fine charged if the laptop cannot be repaired "in house" and is no longer under warranty.

Q: What happens if a person does not return a laptop on time?
A: The person is charged $2.00 an hour for every hour it is overdue.

Q: What happens if a person checks out a laptop and loses it?
A: The person would be asked to pay the replacement cost of $2000.00.

Q: Where do I pick up printouts?
A: There are two printers near the south windows where printouts can be retrieved.

Rules for Checkout

  1. Laptop computers may only be used in the Engineering Library.
  2. Laptop computers should never be left unattended.
  3. Please DO NOT eat, drink, or use anything magnetic around the computer. You are liable for damages (laptops are valued at $2,500). Please return the laptop in the same condition you were given it.
  4. The loan period for a laptop is 3 hours . Please return the laptop to an attendant at the Circulation Desk. Overdue charges are $2.00/hour.
  5. Should you experience problems with programs, with the battery, or with the laptop itself, please ask for help at the Circulation Desk.
  6. Please SAVE your information frequently in case the battery runs low. Monitor your battery life.
  7. Please delete any private data before returning the laptop.
  8. If you have trouble logging in, try moving closer to the center of the library, where the wireless signal is strongest.
