How to Find Missouri State Publications

If the publication is fairly recent (i.e., since 2000), check the Internet.

• Try the Missouri State Library state government publications
• Try the Missouri state home page search function

If the publication was issued before 2000:

• Any date: Check the MERLIN catalog first for library holdings. For best results, set the drop-down box to search "ALL MERLIN."  Not all of our Columbia campus library holdings are entered in MERLIN, but if the publication is in UMSL, UMKC, UMR or SLU's library collections, chances are very good we have it here as well, maybe under the same call number.
• 1976-2000 only: Check the MODOC card file. During the time period 1976-2000, we selectively added publications to the online [MERLIN] catalog, but we always typed cards for this card catalog.
• 1997-2000: Check the annual cumulated Checklist editions which are online.
• 1972-1996: Check the printed annual cumulated Checklist editions.
  The Checklist indexes Missouri state publications issued between 1972 and 2003. These include publications we have and also some which we do not have. It is a monthly index with annual cumulations, so you'll need to check it for each year.
• 1934-1971: If you do not find what you need in MERLIN, then ask us.
• 1878-1933: Check the Missouri Historical Documents Browser This finding aid will help you see whether we have certain 19th- and early 20th-century editions of major serial publications (for example, annual reports) from Missouri state agencies.
• Before 1878: If you do not find what you need in MERLIN, then ask us.
