Streaming Audio Help

In Ellis Library

All the computers in the Information Commons are Macs, but they do not all run the same operating system. To stream audio find a machine with the Windows operating system. These machines are located east of Reference desk in the information Commons and along the windows. Earphones can be checked out at the Reserve desk  next to the north door. If you have any problems, please as for help at the Reference desk.

The file will not play automatically, you will have to Click the Play button.

Clicking on the above link opens Window Media Player, which can't play the file. You will need to change your default application for mms links.
1) Down RCDefault App from http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/
2) Open the RCDefaultApp-2.0.1.X.dmg, you will see RCDefaultAPP.prePane
3) If you have OS X 10.4, you can simply double-click RCDefaultApp.prefPane in the Finder, and System Preferences.app will prompt you where you want it installed.
4) If you don't have OS X 10.4, to install RCDefaultApp.prefPane just copy it to ~/Library/PreferencePanes or /Library/PreferencePanes. You may have to create the directory first, and launch System Preferences. Open Default Apps, it will be on the bottom row.
5) With the Default Apps window open, click on the URLs Button, scroll down mms and choose WMV Player.

Option 2

VLC Player . This Player will play a variety of file types, including Windows Streaming Media. Download and install the appropriate version for your MAC.
