MU Libraries Van

On my way to lunch on break (12:25 pm), which doesn’t give a lot of time but is sufficient, I got stuck behind a MU Libraries van. The black male driving (white male passenger) continued to drive 15 mph below the speed limit, not a care in the world. Do these people have places to be? They are driving around representing the University of Missouri. On my way back from McDonald’s I saw the van pulled over on the side of the road on W Ash St (didn’t get an address) but I did get the plates: MZU 0746

Thank you for passing along your observation. We do expect our employees to drive safely and do their jobs efficiently. The vans make several stops on campus, so speeding would be ill-advised. We are sorry if their slow speed caused you delay.

There are different types of stops they make, including picking up gifts of books and other materials from donors, taking books to the storage facility, and dropping off packages, etc.

Again, thank you for your comment, and I will pass this along to the supervisor of the delivery attendants.

Broken Paper Towel Dispenser

One of the two paper towel dispensers has been broken for several weeks. Can this be fixed? The sign was removed, but it still doesn’t work.

This paper towel dispenser was reported twice in the last 3 weeks. It has been fixed once, and then the handle broke. A new dispenser is on order, but it could be a few weeks.

Ellis Library Finals Hours

Honestly, is this the University of Missouri or William Woods? The hours the library has are pathetic. Not opening until noon on the Sunday before finals? This is absolutely ludacris. There are very few public areas to study in the university during this time, and the amount of students waiting to get into Ellis is crazy.

Thank you for your comment about Ellis Library hours. We do strive to be available to MU students whenever they need to study, and so it is useful to know that we may not be meeting this need on the Sunday before finals. This comment will be given to the Library Managment Team, so they can keep this in consideration when planning the Ellis Library scheudule in upcoming semesters.

Noise in the Current Periodicals Reading Room

All of this afternoon (December 13) I was studying in the southern end of Current Periodicals; the ‘quiet’ study area. Unfortunately a group of seven people chose to study as a group, and ruined the ‘quiet’ designation for the room. Yes, I know that because of finals people will study in the library who never go, I understand that this happens. HOWEVER,  The security guard on duty never once told them to be quiet when making the rounds. As a matter of fact, he never even looked into the room. He just walked against the eastern wall, checked the sensor, and walked through the door, not even turning his head. Had he paid attention (it is his job too) he would have noticed that this group was not only loud, and was also eating and drinking in un-approved containers. It was sad. The point of writing this letter is not to complain of the loud group, but if you employ ‘security’ guards to walk through the library, they should do their job; this guy was not. Completely unacceptable.

Thank you for your comment. We will pass this along to Library Security as a reminder that guards need to be more attentive to noise. The MU Libraries are currently looking into ways to better enforce our noise policies, so this comment is very timely. Please feel free to contact a security guard, or any library employee, if your studying is being disrupted by other library patrons.
