Last summer, the MU Libraries rolled out their new Web site, putting the most used resources up front and improving navigation. Please let us know where we can improve things by commenting on our blog.

The website is clumsy and unsatisfactory. It is difficult to navigate, particularly if you are not heading directly for ebsco. I am disappointed and frustrated, to say the least…
The Ebsco search will be removed in several weeks and will be replaced by a new discovery service based on the Serials Solutions Service called Summon. The goal of this tool is to provide access to all of a library’s content, print and electronic, through a single search box. The Libraries have named our service “TigerSearch.”
At the heart of the Summon software lies a very large index of content that the company is building from a variety of sources. This index includes the full text of a large body of articles provided by many different publishers as well as open access content. Summon aims to expand its index to include all of the content represented in a library’s collection of subscriptions, its local print holdings and other resources.
We hope that the campus community will find it easier to navigate through our rich and varied resources through this new interface.
When I go to this page:
http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/search/databases/default.aspx
And click “Library Science” — instead of taking me to LIS databases, I get to this page:
http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/guides/subjects/libraryscience.htm
and have to click on “Databases for Articles” to actually see those databases.
Kind of inconvenient to have that extra click in there, since it doesn’t happen for other subject areas.
The site has been changed and the two library science databases are now visible on the first page. Thank you for your suggestion!

I really detest that the default is “Quick Article Search in Ebsco Database”, why Ebsco?? I usually use other databases which I find to be more apt, why must I then search for the database of my choice and then do a search in it. We should be able to do a “Quick Article Search in:” and then have a drop down list of the most common databases JSTOR, EBSCO, Academic OneFile etc. That way, people won’t just keep using Ebsco because that is what is easiest. What is easiest may not give you the best results!
The new interface makes locating databases, book titles, authors, and other library services more difficult and clumsy. The layout and legibility are are unsatisfactory.
I added your blog to bookmarks. And i’ll read your articles more often!
I do not like the new website at all. I came to look for your list of databases by subject. Now I have to figure out where you have hidden it.
