Trithemius, Johannes

Herrenstadii : apvd Samvelem Roth-Scholztivm, 1732.

Trithemius was an advisor to Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor and a Benedictine monk in the early 16th century. He enjoyed intellectual pursuits at the German abbey at Sponheim where he was abbot. He developed ciphers and wrote texts that had embedded messages in them. Some of the texts he wrote were about occult practices, including the one here. However, these books are widely believed to be rouses for his encrypted messages.
