Nicholas Culpeper wrote the The English Physician and The complete Herbal both of which offered solutions to common ailments of the seventeenth century. The English Physician offers a witty explanation to solving some of the complaints suggesting for example that distilling heartichokes in wine will allow a person to pass urine.
