William Oldys a biographer of the 18th century wrote an account of the life of Sir Walter Ralegh published in 1740. Oldys himself was a troubled character he worked various jobs through out his life including being the literary secretary to Edward Harley, the 2nd Earl of Oxford and working for various book sellers. Ralegh was a great explorer and settler of the “New World” a well known exploit includes attempts to find El Dorado. He was also a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I.
