Getting Books from Merlin member libraries

 

The Library Catalog can show books held at the Kansas City, Saint Louis, and Rolla campuses as well as St. Louis University. If a book is available at one of those campuses, it can, in most instances, be checked out. To determine if a book is available, connect to the Library Catalog, (telnet – host is merlin.Missouri.edu or web – http://merlin.missouri.edu/,   and then do the following. 

1. Select:  Search ALL MERLIN Library Collections 

2. Perform your search. 

3. See if a copy is listed as NOT CHECKED OUT in the Status Line. 

4. Select REQUEST THIS ITEM  at the top of the screen. 

5. Enter your name, your ID number with a 0 in front and the letter c after.

6. When prompted for a location to pick up the book, select 
Journalism Library unless you would like to pick it up at Ellis Library. 

 

Getting Books from MOBIUS libraries

To determine if a book is available through MOBIUS,  connect to the Library Catalog,  http://merlin.missouri.edu/,   and then click on MOBIUS Union Catalog. 

  • Perform your search and click on the book title you have searched for.
  • Click REQUEST THIS ITEM
  • With which institution are you affiliated?   -  Choose MERLIN
  • Then click on submit above information
  • Then type your name as shown
  • Type your social security number no dashes
  • Then choose MU Journalism Library  as your pickup location
  • Done -  your book should arrive between 3-5 days and you will receive an email

 Getting books from non-Merlin libraries

 

If a book is not held by one of the libraries in the Library Catalog, it can be requested through Interlibrary loan by filling out an online form.  http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/

Interlibrary loan is available only to current students, faculty, and staff. 

Books may take up to two or more weeks to arrive. 

 

   Getting journal articles
  Finding online full-text for journal articles, go to http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/journalism/databases.htm and click on Finding Fulltext.  The best place to start it Find it At MU.  This has a list of journals and magazines and all the databases that have full-text for that journal and when the full-text started.

 

Neither journals nor journal articles can be requested over the Library Catalog. Instead, articles must be requested through Interlibrary loan by filling out an online form. http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/journalism/ill.htm

 

Interlibrary loan is available only to current students, faculty, and staff. 

Journal articles may take up to two or more weeks to arrive.   Interlibrary Loan has been sending emails when the article has arrived and they will give you a web address to go to and a pin to open the article.

 

 How long does Interlibrary Loan take?
 

 

Request may take up to two or more weeks to arrive. 

If a journal article is needed in a hurry, it can be faxed. can be requested faxed. Fax requests cannot be guaranteed, but most fax requests filled within 24 hours during weekdays. Instructions for Fax requests can be found on the journal request form.

 

Requesting materials which the library does not own 

Books that are held by other Kansas City, St. Louis, and Rolla campuses of 
the University of Missouri and by St. Louis University can be requested 
through Merlin, the Online Catalog. Instructions for requesting books online below.

Journals and journal articles cannot be requested over the Online Catalog. 

Books, journal articles, and dissertations which the library does not own can be requested through interlibrary loan. This service is provided only to currently enrolled students, and to faculty and staff currently employed by the university.

Requests can be made over the web.  There are separate forms for books, journals and dissertations or thesis.     http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/journalism/ill.htm
